We’re on the last 30 km of the Milan-Sanremo, a legendary race in cycling. After 5 km there is the climb of the Cipressa; and if we don’t want to lose, we’ll have to keep up with the best riders. Picking the right gear (39x14-39x15) is all-important so as not to tire legs and to have enough energy for the final sprint. From the top there’s 15 km of downhill road and flat land before reaching the beginning of the Poggio. From now on it is necessary to make up the difference by breaking away from the group.
From the top of the Poggio there is a short but very technical descent where it’s important not to slacken the pace. And if this isn’t enough to create a gap, then all that’s left is to try and win in the final spurt against the world’s best sprinters or, imitating Pippo Pozzato, winner in 2006, beat the group with the acceleration of a real finisseur.
